BROWNWOOD, Texas - The UT Dallas men's soccer team suffered its first American Southwest Conference loss, falling to Howard Payne 2-1 at Citizens National Bank Field Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (5-3-2, 1-1 ASC) opened the scoring in the 30th minute on sophomore forward
Riley O'Donnell's team-leading sixth goal of the year on a pass from junior midfielder
Kane Kidwell.
The Yellow Jackets (4-4-2, 1-1 ASC) tied the game in 47th minute on a Daniel Hernandez penalty kick. Gael Cancino hit the game winner on an assist from Taylor Hefner in the 76th minute.
Despite the loss, UTD outshot HPU 14-7 overall and 9-4 on goal. The Comets had a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks and the Yellow Jackets led 10-7 in fouls.
UT Dallas Notes
- The goal was the 19th in O'Donnell's career.
- Kidwell recorded his team-leading third assist of the season and seventh of his career.
- O'Donnell led the Comets with three shots on goal, while
Joe Ruedi took two.
