RICHARDSON, TX (02.12.22) - Playing its fourth game in seven days, the UT Dallas men's basketball team suffered an 83-69 home loss to McMurry Saturday afternoon in ASC play.
The Comets slipped to 14-7 overall with Saturday's loss but held on to third place in the ASC standings at 10-6 with two games left in the regular season. UTD will wrap up its home schedule Tuesday night when the Comets play host to second-place LeTourneau at 7:30 p.m. The Comets will then close the regular season Thursday night at Ozarks.
UTD struggled both from the free-throw line (16-of-27) and three-point range (5-of-27) as the visiting War Hawks (8-13, 6-10 ASC) kept their post-season hopes alive with the upset.
Kameron Pruitt and
Caden McKenzie each finished with 15 points as the only Comets to close the contest in double figures.
Luke Kiser and
Hunter Stevens added nine points and
James Curtis had eight points.
The two squads swapped leads eight times in the opening half before McMurry drained back-to-back three-pointers in the final seconds of the period to pull ahead, 38-31, at intermission. The War Hawks snagged their first double-digit lead early in the second half and never looked back, leading by as many as 19 points late in the game.
The Comets' five three-pointers matched the second-lowest total by the squad this season while UTD's 11 missed free throws was the second most by the team. The Comets did dominate the boards in the loss, out-rebounding McMurry, 49-31, with 23 offensive rebounds. Pruitt collected game-high 15 rebounds for his second-straight and eighth overall 'double-double' of the season.
