Comets Hold Off Ozarks, 71-64, in Regular Season Finale

CLARKSVILLE, AR (02.17.22) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team closed out the regular season Thursday night with a 71-64 ASC road win over Ozarks.

The Comets will head into the postseason with a 15-8 overall record and currently sit in fifth place in the ASC standings at 11-7 in league play. UTD could move up to the No. 4 seed in next week's ASC Championship after this weekend's results. The 2021-22 ASC men's basketball tournament will be hosted by Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Feb. 24-26.

Kameron Pruitt recorded his team-leading ninth 'double-double', the second-most in the league this season, as he closed Thursday's victory with 16 points and 15 rebounds, both game highs. Pruitt was 8-for-17 from the field, adding four blocked shots, two assists and a steal against the Eagles. James Curtis added 14 and Hunter Stevens had 13 points to round out the Comets in double figures. Stevens also dished out a team-best five assists.

The Comets nearly led the game wire-to-wire despite shooting just 37.0 percent from the floor as a team. UTD was 10-for-12 from the free-throw line to hold off the Eagles and committed a season-low eight turnovers.

UTD grabbed its first double-digit lead of the contest with 9:26 left in the opening half when Luke Kiser hit one of two free shots to push the Comets to a 20-10 advantage. The Eagles then rolled off seven straight points to draw within a single possession before UTD settled down and secured a 31-25 at the half. The Eagles battled back within a point with just over 14 minutes to play, 42-41, but UTD would hang on to snap its two-game losing sid.
