Comet Women Rally Past Ozarks for 57-53 ASC Road Win

CLARKSVILLE, AR (02.17.22) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team opened the fourth period with a 10-0 run as the Comets rallied for a 57-53 ASC road win at Ozarks Thursday night to wrap up the regular season.

The regionally ranked Comets wrap up the regular season with a 13-7 overall record and will enter next week's ASC Championship as the No. 4 seed after a 12-5 mark in league play this season. This year's ASC women's tournament will be played in Marshall, hosted by East Texas Baptist, starting Thursday, Feb. 24. The Comets will open the event with a first-round meeting with fifth-seeded LeTourneau.

The Comets entered the final quarter trailing host Ozarks (7-14, 4-12 ASC), 45-39, UTD rolled off 10 straight points to open the fourth and took its first lead since closing the first half with a slim one-point advantage. The Eagles outscored UTD, 21-14, in the third as they held the Comets to just 4-of-14 shooting (28.6%) in the quarter.

UTD scored four points in the first eight seconds of the fourth to draw within two points after buckets by Michaela Walker and Paris Kiser. McKenzie Howard added two free throws to knot the game, 45-45, with 8:58 left to play before Walker made back-to-back baskets to complete the 10-0 run and give the Comets a four-point advantage, 49-45, with just over eight minutes left.

Ozarks regained a lead midway through the fourth, 50-49, but UTD would limit the Eagles to a single field goal over the final five minutes to pull away and close the regular season with the victory.

Jordan Maxwell led the Comets with 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting, with two three-pointers. Walker and Maddie Edler both came off the bench for eight points each while Jordan Rudd had seven points. Howard and Walker each grabbed a team-best five rebounds.

The Comets will be making their 16th consecutive appearance in the ASC Championship next week and will be looking for their fifth all-time conference title.
