ABILENE, TX (03.03.22) - In a battle of last season's division champions, the UT Dallas women's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the young season after an 8-1 road win over Hardin-Simmons Thursday afternoon.
The Comets rolled through doubles play unscathed before taking the first five singles decisions en route to the decisive win over last year's ASC West Division champion Cowgirls. UTD will continue its Abilene road swing Saturday with a 2 p.m. match at McMurry.
Top-flighted doubles tandem of
Samantha Wong and
Elyssa Ducret was the first Comet pairing to earn victory Thursday, dispatching HSU's Lauren Schaeffer/Biranne Dumas, 8-3.
Rebecca Jackson and
Megan Zeng would add an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles and
Saumya Vedula and
Suzuka Nishino claimed an 8-3 win at No. 3 to give UTD a 3-0 lead.
Ducret extended the Comets' lead to 4-0 with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-0, win over Priscilla Schimming at No. 4 singles before Vedula locked down the team victory with a 6-3, 6-1, win over Landry Laywell at No. 3. Wong (No. 1, 6-2, 6-4), Nishino (No. 2, 7-6, 6-0) and Jackson (No. 5, 6-2, 6-3) also claimed singles wins.
