RICHARDSON, TX (04.02.22) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team collected its second straight win to open ASC East play Saturday afternoon with a hard-fought 6-3 victory over LeTourneau.
The Comets improved to 6-3 on the season and 2-0 in ASC East play with Saturday's victory and will return to action Tuesday with a non-conference duel with Concordia Texas in Belton.
After dropping an 8-6 decision at No. 1 doubles to open the match, the Comets need tie breakers at both No. 2 and No. 3 to earn a 2-1 lead heading to singles action.
Ryan Au Yeung and
Ritvik Ganesan evened the match with an 8-7 (7-5) win at No. 2 before
Carlos De Leon and
Mario Dominguez claimed an 8-7 (8-6) decision at No. 3.
The visiting YellowJackets claimed the first two matches in singles play, earning wins at No. 3 and No. 4, to re-take a slim lead, 3-2, in the duel. However, the Comets closed the contest with four straight singles win to remain perfect in league play.
John Edwards evened the match at 3-3 with his 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, win at No. 2 singles over LETU's Rodrigo Vazuez and top-flighted
Ashwin Vaithianathan gave the Comets back the lead with his 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, win over Julian Lee.
Au Yeung secured the team victory with a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 5 over Nathan Schmidt. Dominguez wrapped up singles play with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, win at No. 6 over Andres Urretia.
