RICHARDSON, TX (04.02.22) - The UT Dallas softball team closed out a three-game ASC home series against Sul Ross State Saturday with a 5-1 loss to the Lobos. Prior to the contest, the Comets honored their seven seniors and their families in a pre-game ceremony.
With four weekends lef the regular season, the Comets (17-11 overall) sit in a tie for fifth place in the ASC at 9-9 with 12 games left on the league schedule. UTD will play nine of its final 12 regular-season games on the road, starting with a three-game series at 10th-place Ozarks this weekend in Clarksville.
The Comets opened the scoring in Saturday's game with SRSUÂ in the bottom of the 2nd when
Cole Johnson came home on a groundout by
Nicole Peters. However, the Lobos countered with a three-run pinch-hit home run by Taryn Griner in the 5th and tacked on two final runs in the top of the 7th to pull away and take the weekend series.
The two teams split games Friday night as the Comets won the series opener, 5-1, but dropped the second game, 5-2, in eight innings.
UTD managed just two hits in Saturday's loss with lead-off hitter
