CLARKSVILLE, AR (04.08.22) - The UT Dallas softball team opened a three-game ASC road series at Ozarks Friday afternoon with a 11-3, run-rule victory over the host Eagles.
The Comets (18-11, 10-9 ASC) will wrap up the weekend set at Ozarks Saturday with a 11 a.m. doubleheader at Hurie Softball Field.
UTD used a pair of five-run innings to first take an early lead and then secure the six-inning victory over the Eagles. Tied 1-1 after the opening frame, the Comets plated five runs in the top of the 2nd to take control of the contest. UTD later added five runs in the top of the 6th to pull away for the win.
The Comets opened the scoring in the top of the 1st with an RBI single to right by
Cole Johnson, scoring
Jordan Evans. However, Ozarks evened the scored in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run.
UTD got its first big hit in the top of the 2nd with an
Ashley Ambrosy bases-clearing triple to right center, pushing the Comets to a 4-1 lead. Evans added an infield single, scoring Ambrosy, and then scored later in the inning on an Eagle error.
Ozarks (6-20, 4-14 ASC) rallied with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to draw within three runs before UTD put the game out of reach with two long balls of its own in the 6th. Ashley Markley opened the squad's second five-run frame with a two-run homer to right center, her fourth of the season.
Nicole Peters added a three-run shot to center later in the inning, her first of the year.
Emilie Hoelscher (7-4) tossed the full 6.0 innings, earning the victory with seven strikeouts. She gave up three runs on six hits and walked two. Peters went 4-for-4 from the plate with three RBI and two runs scored while Evans was 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
