RICHARDSON, TX (04.23.22) - The UT Dallas softball team managed just three hits as the Comets were handed a 17-0 defeat to No. 4 East Texas Baptist to close out a three-game ASC home series.
The Comets dropped to 23-14 overall with the loss and hold on to fifth place in the ASC standings at 15-12 with three games left in the regular season. UTD will wrap up the regular season next weekend with a three-game ASC road set at No. 6-ranked Belhaven, starting Friday in Jackson, Miss.
Down 7-0 early, the Comets had their best offensive threat of the afternoon in the bottom of the 2nd as they collected a pair of two-out hits off of ETBU starter Ashley Croft. After a fielding error by the Tigers,
Alexia Mullen gave the Comets a runner on first and second after a single to left.
Ashley Ambrosy then reached on an infield single, but the Tigers threw out the runner at home as the Comets tried to a steal a run after the bang-bang play at first base.
Croft would retire the Comets in order until a two-out single by Ambrosy in the 5th as the Tigers continue to add runs later in the contest. Ambrosy finished the game 2-for-3 from the lead-off spot while Mullen was 1-for-1.
