ABILENE, TX (04.08.22) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team suffered its second straight defeat on Friday, falling at Hardin-Simmons, 6-3, in a battle of the 2021 ASC division champions.
The Comets (6-5) managed just one win in doubles action against host HSU and just two singles victories, despite a pair of three-set battles.
Top-flighted tandem of
Ashwin Vaithianathan and
John Edwards picked up a lop-sided 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles against the Cowboys, but the Comet duos at both No.2Â and No. 3 fell in their matches.
Edwards claimed a hard-fought straight-set win at No.2 singles over HSU's Nathaniel Schoendoft, 7-6 (7-2) and 7-6 (8-6).
Ritvik Ganesan was the only other Comet to earn a singles victory, downing HSU's Desmond O'Shea, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4.
The Comets return to action Saturday with a 1 p.m. ASC East home match against Belhaven at the UTD Tennis Courts.
