GEORGETOWN, TX (05.05.22) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team opened the 2022 ASC Men's Tennis Championship Tournament Thursday morning with a quick 5-0 win over McMurry in the opening round.

The Comets (8-6) rolled through doubles play and then added two brisk straight-set victories in singles action to earn their spot in the ASC semifinals on Friday. UTD will next play Hardin-Simmons at 10:30 a.m. Friday at East View High School.
Ritvik Ganesan and
Ryan Au Yeung were the first two Comets to claim victory in doubles against the War Hawks with an 8-1 win over Ty Edwards and Jason Cabe. Top-flighted
Ashwin Vaithianathan and
John Edwards added an 8-4 win at No. 1 over Chase Daniell and Reid Smith to give UTD a 2-0 advantage.
Mario Dominguez and
Carlos De Leon capped the doubles sweep for the Comets with an 8-4 win over Connor Hogan and Trent Lewis at No. 3.
Noah Sam was the first Comet singles play to wrap up his match, claiming a 6-0, 6-0, win over McMurry's Edwards at No. 5. Ganesan then locked down the match with a 6-0, 6-0, win over Hogan at No. 3.
At the conclusion of the duel, Vaithianathan (No. 1), Edwards (No. 2), De Leon (No. 4) and Au Yeung (No. 6) were all up a set in their respective singles matches.
The Comets are making their sixth consecutive appearance in the ASC semifinals.
