ATLANTA - After picking up a four-set win over Cal Lutheran to open the East*West Classic, the UT Dallas volleyball lost to Washington-St. Louis 26-24, 25-27, 22-25, 20-25 in the Comets' nightcap Friday evening.
UTD (3-2) hit .333 with 17 kills in the first set, as the held off the Bears (6-0) 26-24. Wash U. rebounded to take the next two sets 27-25 and 25-22, with both teams exchanging leads throughout the frames. Washington, who received votes in the AVCA Top 25 Poll along with the Comets, led almost the entire final set before securing the victory 25-20.
UTD hit .166 for the match, with 49 kills, six aces, seven blocks and 62 digs. The Bears hit .199 with 56 kills, five aces, seven blocks and 66 digs.
UT Dallas Notes
- Senior outside hitter
Abby Jones recorded a career-high 19 kills to go with three aces, eight digs and three blocks.
- Junior outside hitter/right side
Madison Ball hit .382 with 17 kills and 13 digs.
- Junior setter
Emma Sevening cracked the Comets' career top 10 list in assists with 21 against the Bears, bringing her career tally to 611.

Izzy Sundquist, a junior setter, added 16 assists.

Rachel Baxter led the Comets with 15 digs and tied a career-best with eight assists.

- Michaela Bach led all players with 20 kills, hit .333 and recorded 12 digs.
- Jasmine Sells hit .333 with 17 kills.
- Sam Buckley had 49 assists and 14 digs.
