Tyler Durden won a two-hole, three-player playoff to take medalist honors at the UMHB Fall Invitational at Sammons Golf Course on Tuesday.
Durden, who tied for a lead with a 67-70=137 (-3) with Kyle Anderson of Howard Payne and Kip Childress of East Texas Baptist, tied for the second-lowest 36-hole score in program history. On the first playoff hole, all three shot even on the par 5 hole. Durden then sank a 10-foot birdie putt on the par four second playoff hole to take the individual title.
As a team, the #25 Comets finished second with a 276-285=561 (+1), five shots behind ETBU. UTD shot its fifth lowest round in school history on Tuesday and recorded the lowest 36-hole score.
Sophomore
Daniel Shofner tied for sixth with a 69-70=139 (-1), which is tied for the fourth-best two-round score in Comet history. Sophomores
Andrew Chow and
Cade Eldridge each posted scores of 143 (+3) to tie for 15th.
For the tournament, Chow led the Comets with nine birdies, while Eldridge and Shofner made eight. Durden was second with 25 pars.Â
UT Dallas will be back in action on Monday, October 4 at the Tempest Intercollegiate in Gladewater, Texas
