ABILENE, Texas - Two days into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional, three men's tennis players from UT Dallas are still alive.

After losing in the opening round of the championship draw, Jed de Luna, Eddy Shyten and Aryan Sharma advanced to the round of 16 of the consolation bracket. Sharma lost to #9 Oscar Roy of Southwestern (Texas) in the first round, then defeated Sebastian Soria from Howard Payne 6-2, 6-2.  de Luna suffered a defeat to #5 Eric Liao of Trinity (Texas) then topped Tyler Head from St. Thomas (Texas) 6-2, 3-6, 10-7. Eddy Shteyn fell to Ryan Hastings of SU then topped Jorge Garcia from Concordia Texas 6-2, 6-1.

de Luna will Kade Talbot at 8 a.m. Saturday, while Shteyn and Sharma will face each other at the same time with trips to quarterfinals on the line.

Comet senior Ritvik Ganesan opened the first round by defeating Zhanlue Kuang of UST 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) before being eliminated by Trinity's #13 Rafael Candelas Ruiz 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Nathan Qi beat Max Karseno from East Texas Baptist 3-6, 6-2, 10-3 then fell to #3 Brice Bradshaw of Hardin-Simmons 6-2, 4-6, 10-5. Snehin Yerragudi also advanced to the second round after beating Head 6-1, 7-5 then was eliminated by Liao 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.
