BELTON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's soccer team earned its sixth American Southwest Conference championship Saturday night at the Cru Sports Plex.

The game against Concordia Texas (9-6-3) ended in a 1-1 double overtime tie before the Comets (10-6-4) prevailed in penalty kicks, 6-5 to add 2023 to its title banner that also includes 2004, 2007, 2015, 2016 and 2019.

After a scoreless first half, the Tornados got on the board in the 66th minute when Jose Aguirre converted a penalty kick. Senior defender Kayson Marriott evened the score on a header off a corner kick from junior Riley O'Donnell in the 74th.

Concordia managed a pair of shots in the final minute of regulation, including a leaping save from UTD junior keeper Micheal Hesse.

Hesse made a pair of saves in the second overtime, while Tornado starting goalkeeper Brock Hendrickson made one.

Hesse saved the next one, while Vaughn Morgan put the Comets up 2-1 in the best-of-five attempts. Jesse Garfias converted the third round attempt for Concordia, while UTD's shot was stopped. Theo Givens' shot went high in round four, while Luke Deats converted to give the Comets a 3-2 advantage. The Tornados saved the fifth round by a good attempt by Marco Casulli, while UTD's shot was save to force sudden death PKs.

Antonio Rios and Jose Aguirre each converted in the next two rounds for CTX, while Gavin Smith and Alex Mutalibov were successful for UTD, making it 5-5. Aidyn Ogle's eighth round shot for Concordia went off the right post while sophomore midifelder Aiden Currie converted to give the Comets to league crown.
