SEGUIN, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team wrapped up the season-opening road trip by splitting a pair of games on Saturday at Katt-Isbel Field. The Comets (2-1) dropped the first game to host Texas Lutheran 13-3 in seven innings, but rebounded to defeat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 16-6.
After losing to UTD Friday night, the host Bulldogs (3-5) jumped out to a 7-1 lead after four innings. The Comets added a run in the fifth and again in the sixth before TLU ended the game by run-rule with a six spot in the seventh.
In the second game, the Stags went up 2-1 through three innings. UTD tied the game in bottom of the fourth when first baseman 
Robert Hines doubled and scored on a base hit by center fielder 
Jaeger Self.
The Comets took control of the contest with a seven-run fifth. Third baseman Dylan BIvins hit a two-run homer and Hines hit a grand slam to highlight the inning. CMS scored twice in the seventh to make the game 9-4, but UTD scored five more times in the bottom half on five hits and an error. Both teams scored twice in the eighth for the final 16-6 tally.
UT Dallas Notes
- Hines  went 4-for-4 with a double, home run, five RBI and three runs scored against CMS.
- Left fielder 
Kade Turnage went 5-for-9 on the day, driving in four runs and scoring twice.
- Self connected for five hits over the two games with an RBI and walk.
- Bivins went 5-for-7 with the homer and three batted in.
- Second baseman 
Andrew Skivington recorded two hits, two RBI, three runs and a pair of sacrifice flies from the leadoff spot.
- Catcher 
Coleman Camp threw out his second runner of the season in as many attempts against the Stags. He also drove in two and scored twice.
- Shortstop 
Keagan Vance was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two batted in in game two.
- 
Joshua Wood went five innings, allowing seven hits, two runs and a walk with two strikeouts to pick up the win against CMS.
- 
Jake Good threw a perfect ninth inning, striking out one in game two.
Texas Lutheran Notes
- First baseman Tyler Post went 4-for-5 with four RBI, a run scored, a double and a triple.
- Catcher Holden Philippus was 3-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base.
- Nik Garcia drove in two runs.
- Blake Cappadona also hit a triple.
- JT Taylor (1-1) earned teh win by going five innings, allowing two runs, three walks and a strikeout.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Notes
- First baseman Julian Sanders went 2-for-4 with a solo home run.
- Tyler Shaw, Jack Potter and Mitchell Mashiko each had a pair of hits.
- Left fielder Nick Wilson drove in two runs with a hit and a sac fly.
- The Stags were outhit 20-11.
