RICHARDSON, Texas - Third baseman
Dylan Bivins hit a two-run homer over the fence in left center in the bottom of the ninth to cap off Saturday's American Southwest Conference double-header split between UT Dallas and Hardin-Simmons at UTD Baseball Field Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (4-3, 1-2 ASC) won the second game 4-2 after the Cowboys (3-6, 2-1 ASC) won the opener 4-3 in a seven-inning contest.
Sophomore left-hander
Caleb Vuono earned his first win as a Comet, striking out five and only allowing two hits and two walks over 7.2 innings of relief.
HSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run homer by shortstop Colby Seltzer. The Comets were scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when shortstop Keegan Vance led off with a walk and later scored on a Bivins base hit.
In the ninth, Vance led off with a base hit and was replaced by pinch runner
Garrett Neeley. After a sacrifce bunt by
Jaeger Self,
Andrew Skivington followed with a base hit, scoring Neeley from second. Bivins blasted the first pitch off of reliever Wyatt Tumlinson to give the Comets the walk-off victory.
In the opener, UTD took a 2-0 lead in the second with back-to-back RBI-singles by catcher
Austin Nairn and Vance. The Cowboys took a 3-2 lead in the third with a two-run single off of Seltzer's bat and a runner scoring from third on a wild pitch.
Luke Finn led the bottom of the fourth off with a bunt single, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a Nairn double to left center to tie it up at 3-3. HSU took the final lead when Karson Leatherwood led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Ellington.
UT Dallas Notes
- Bivins was 4-for-5 in game two, with three RBI and the walk-off home run.
- Vance had three hits on the day, walked and scored with an RBI.
- Finn was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs in game one.

Robert Hines extended their hitting streaks to five games.

Dylan Hugley struck out five batters, allowing seven hits and three runs in six innings in a no decision effort in game one.
Hardin-Simmons Notes
- Cole Antonelli was 2-for-3 in the first game
- Ellington was 2-for-2 with a RBI, run scored and sac fly in the opener.
- Grant Mitzelfelt (1-1) earned the win with five strikeouts, two earned runs, a walk and eight hits allowed over seven innings.
- Leatherwood had a double in each game.
