Walk-Off Homer Caps UTD Split With HSU

RICHARDSON, Texas - Third baseman Dylan Bivins hit a two-run homer over the fence in left center in the bottom of the ninth to cap off Saturday's American Southwest Conference double-header split between UT Dallas and Hardin-Simmons at UTD Baseball Field Saturday afternoon.

The Comets (4-3, 1-2 ASC) won the second game 4-2 after the Cowboys (3-6, 2-1 ASC) won the opener 4-3 in a seven-inning contest.

Sophomore left-hander Caleb Vuono earned his first win as a Comet, striking out five and only allowing two hits and two walks over 7.2 innings of relief.

HSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run homer by shortstop Colby Seltzer. The Comets were scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when shortstop Keegan Vance led off with a walk and later scored on a Bivins base hit.

In the ninth, Vance led off with a base hit and was replaced by pinch runner Garrett Neeley. After a sacrifce bunt by Jaeger Self, Andrew Skivington followed with a base hit, scoring Neeley from second. Bivins blasted the first pitch off of reliever Wyatt Tumlinson to give the Comets the walk-off victory.

In the opener, UTD took a 2-0 lead in the second with back-to-back RBI-singles by catcher Austin Nairn and Vance. The Cowboys took a 3-2 lead in the third with a two-run single off of Seltzer's bat and a runner scoring from third on a wild pitch.

Luke Finn led the bottom of the fourth off with a bunt single, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a Nairn double to left center to tie it up at 3-3. HSU took the final lead when Karson Leatherwood led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Ellington.
