Comets Run-Rule Eagles Twice

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team earned a pair of wins, both by run-rule, against Ozarks in American Southwest Conference competition on Friday at UTD Softball Field. The Comets (7-6, 2-3 ASC) won the first game 9-0 in five innings, followed by an 8-0, five-inning defeat of the Eagles (3-10, 0-5) in the nightcap.

In game one, first baseman Allison Cowart had an infield single in the top of the first, the only hit of the game for UO. UTD went on to crank out eight hits and take advantage of five walks and two errors.

Freshman right fielder Claire Pollack led off the third with a solo home run to left for the Comets. They followed with an eight-run fourth inning, including a grand slam by catcher Megan Todd. Holly Selldin also had a pinch hit two-run single as UTD sent 14 batters to the plate in the frame.

Emilie Hoelscher (4-3) earned the win, striking out seven and allowing the lone hit over four innings. McKenzie Cutbirth struck out all three batters faced in the fifth.

In game two, the Comets outhit the Eagles 11-3. Merisa Mejia hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first to start the scoring. Three hits and an error lead to three more runs in the third. UTD ended the game with three runs on four hits in the fifth. Sarah Lewis hit a two-run pinch hit single and Pollack recorded a single up the middle, scoring Evelyn Santos to force the run rule.

Cutbirth (3-2) allowed three hits and three walks to go with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings to get the win.

UT Dallas Notes
- Todd was 3-for-5 with two walks and four RBI. The grand slam was the program record third in her career.
- Pollack had three hits with two runs scored, two RBI and the solo homer.
- Lewis was 4-for-4 on the day with a pair of doubles and three batted in.
- Selldin had a pair of hits, two runs scored and two RBI.
- Mejia drove in three runs with a double and walked once. She also struck out both batters she faced in game two.
- Center fielder Riley Westmoreland stole two bases in game one.
- Megan Cavazos hit two doubles and scored twice.

Ozarks Notes
- Cowart had a hit in both games.
- Kayln Soria recorded a double in game two, the only extra-base hit allowed. 
- Hayley Rivett also had a hit in game two.
- Mack Lucio took the loss in game one while Morgan Haupt loss game two.

Up Next
The Comets and Eagles will play again on Saturday with an ASC game starting at noon, followed by a non-conference contest to wrap up the four-game series.
