UTD Track Shatters Three Records in California

LOS ANGELES - Four members of the UT Dallas track & field squad competed at the Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic in California Saturday evening, hosted by Occidental College.

All four Comets recorded personal best times, and school records were broken in each of the three events. 

Graduate student Trent Sakakini finished second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a new record time of 9:24.92. He broke his old mark by 14 seconds, running the best time in NCAA Division III so far this season. Sakakini finished behind a runner from Loyola Marymount, a Division I school. 

Junior Graeme Maclean finished 56th out of 232 competitors in the 5,000 meter run with a new school record of 15:07.44. He broke his own record by 7.6 seconds and now has the 26th-best mark in the nation. Senior Griffin Davis was 81st in the 5K in 15:19.86, besting his old personal record by 30 seconds. He now ranks 35th in the nation in the 5,000.

In the 10,000 meters, junior Devan Bailey took eighth place with a new school record of 32:35.28, breaking his old time by more than 22 seconds. His mark also ranks eighth in the country.

UT Dallas will send a full team to the Wes Kittley Invitational in Abilene, Texas starting March 17.
