Comets Run Rule #38 Huskies To End Spring Break Trip

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The UT Dallas baseball team finished its RussMatt Central Florida Invitational slate with an 11-1, eight-inning victory over #38 Southern Maine and Lake Myrtle Park Monday evening.

The Comets (9-7) outhit the the Huskies (1-3) 10-4 while drawing seven walks. 

UTD scored in all but one of the innings. In the top of the first, center fielder Jaeger Self drew a walk, stole second and scored on a Dylan Bivins double. Shortstop Keagan Vance hit a sacrifice fly to right, plating Kade Turnage, who led off the second with a walk. The Comets took a 3-0 advantage in the third after Self doubled to start the frame, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground ball by Bivins.

Another lead off walk by second baseman Andrew Skivington in the fifth led to another run after Luke Finn drove him in with a sac fly. USM scored its only run in the fifth after a single, hit batter and an error. Skivington and Self recorded RBI-singles in the sixth to give UTD a 6-1 advantage.

The Comets recorded four runs on two hits, an error, a walk and a hit batter to go up 10-1 in the seventh. The final run came in the eighth when Bivins led off with a single to center and scored on a double from catcher Nico Fernandez.

UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets recorded five doubles, three sac bunts and three sac flies.
- Self went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, a walk, a double and a stolen base.
- Bivins also drove in two runs with a pair of hits, including a double.
- Skivington extended his hit streak to 14 games with a single to go with two runs, two RBI and a walk. 
- Fernandez came up with a pair of hits, including a double.
- Colin Ethridge drew two walks and scored two runs with a double and two sac bunts.
- Apollo Cassimatis earned his first win on the mound, striking out four batters and allowing three hits, one walk and one unearned runs over five innings. He also picked off a runner.
- Ben Soule and Ben Price struck out four batters in three scoreless frames.

Southern Maine Notes
- Shortstop Chris Quigley was 2-for-3.
- Brogan Searle-Belange was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
- Joe Bova added a hit and Janek Lukzsa drew a walk.
- Dylan Miner (0-1) went 4.1 innings, allowing three hits, four runs, four walks and three strikeotus in the losing start.
