RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team opened its American Southwest Conference series with a double-header split against Sul Ross State at UTD Baseball Field Saturday.
The visiting Lobos (9-9, 5-6 ASC) rallied to win game one 9-7 in seven innings, but the Comets (13-9, 6-5 ASC) exploded with a 17-3 victory in the nightcap.
UTD got out to a 4-0 lead on four hits in the second of inning of game one. They then took advantage of error to go up 6-0 in the fourth. A RBI-double and back-to-back sacrifice flies let SRSU cut the deficit to 6-3 in the top of the fifth, but Comet designated hitter 
Grayson Coltharp led off the bottom of the frame with a home run over the left field fence to go up 7-3.
The Lobos took advantage of four hits, two walks, a hit batter and a sacrifice fly for a six-run top of the seventh. First baseman Carsen Thor hit a double down the left field line to score the go-ahead run.
UTD outhit Sul Ross 9-6 and only struck out twice in game one.
Game two was a different experience for the Comets, as they outhit the Lobos 19-11. UTD picked up a run in the second and another in the third and first baseman 
Robert Hines recorded a two-run double in the fifth to go up 4-0. 
Thor hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to make the game 4-2, but the Comets answered with a two-run blast by center fielder 
Jaeger Self in the bottom half.
UTD scored 11 runs on seven hits in the bottom of the seventh while sending up 16 batters to the plate. Right fielder 
Daniel Zamora had the big blast of the inning with a grand slam to left field. The Lobos plated the final run in the ninth on a pinch hit RBI-single from Corbin Dube.
UT Dallas Notes
- Coltharp had a pair of hits in each game, with two doubles and a home run. He has recorded an extra-base hit in his last six games.
- Zamora was 2-for-5 with three runs scored and six RBI in game two. The grand slam was his 11th career home run.
- Third baseman 
Dylan Bivins went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a double in the nightcap - his third four-hit game of the season.
- Self hit his first collegiate home run.
- Shortstop 
Keagan Vance recorded four hits, including a double, and knocked in three runs on the day.
- 
Brayshon Savage recorded three hits, a double and scored three times over the two games.
- 
Dylan Hugley (1-1) picked up his first win of the season in game two, striking out four and giving up eight hits, two runs and a walk in seven innings.
- Freshman 
Kasey Klyng struck out one in a perfect eighth inning.
Sul Ross State Notes
- Thor had the double and home run with three RBI.
- Alvaro Hernandez scored three times over both games.
- Primo Vasquez drove in two runs in game one.
- Aaron Morales had three hits, including two doubles and scored three times.
- Aiden Becker (1-0) earned the win in the opener, allowing two hits and a run with one strikeout in two innings of relief.
- Ian Craigie picked up his third save of the year with a perfect seventh inning.
