ALPINE, Texas - After splitting a double-header on Friday, the UT Dallas softball team won the American Southwest Conference series finale 4-3 against Sul Ross State at Lobo Softball Field Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (12-7, 5-4 ASC) scored in the top of the first when right fielder
Claire Pollack single to left, moved to third on a
Megan Todd double, then crossed the plate on an
Addison Caddell sacrifice fly. First baseman
Cole Johnson led off the second with a double and
Erin Ledesma followed with a home run over the left field fence to give UTD a 3-0 lead.
Three hits and an error led to the Lobos (4-10, 2-7) tying the game in the bottom of the fourth. Annika Canaba doubles and scored on a double by Jaelyn Zuniga. Camryn Hardin then reached on an error and third baseman Veronica Rodriguez drove in a run. Hardin scored from third on a double steal attempt before Rodriguez was caught.
The Comets regained the lead in the top of the fifth when Pollack singled and scored on a Caddell base hit to right field. SRSU threatened in the sixth with a pair of singles before reliever
Marisa Mejia struck out Hernandez to end the inning. With one out in the seventh, Elizabeth Clemente reached on a pinch hit triple, but Mejia closed out the game with a pair of pop ups.
UT Dallas Notes
- Mejia earned her second save of the season with three scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out one.

Emilie Hoelscher moved to 7-4 on the year after striking out two with five hits and one earned run allowed over four frames.
- Ledesma was 3-for-3 with the home run, a double and two batted in.
- Todd moved her hitting streak to 10 games with a pair of hits, including a double.
- Pollack had a double, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
- Johnson extended her hitting streak to five games with a double.

Sul Ross State Notes
- Canaba went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored.
- Zuniga was also 2-for-3 with a RBI and a double.
