Comets End Double-Header Sweep with Walk-Off

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team used great pitching and clutch hitting to sweep Concordia Texas in an American Southwest Conference double-header at UTD Softball Field Friday evening.

Emilie Hoelscher led the Comets (14-7, 7-4 ASC) with 11 strikeouts while scattering five hits in a 2-0 shutout in the opener. Holly Selldin recorded a walk-off pinch hit RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh to complete the double-header sweep of the Tornados (13-10, 4-7 ASC) with a 5-4 victory.

In game one, freshman right fielder Claire Pollack led the bottom of the first off with a home run over the fence in left to give UTD an early 1-0 advantage. They picked up the second run in the fourth when Sarah Lewis led off with an infield single and was lifted for pinch runner Alexia Mullen, who stole second and scored on RBI-single by Megan Cavazos. 

The nightcap started with a three-run first for the Comets, which included a two-run double from Addison Caddell and a sacrifice fly by Lewis. The Tornados scored their first run of the day in the second when Mindy Matthews singled and later scored on a ground ball from Andrea Salinas. 

Caddell led off the third by reaching on an error and after another error and a walk, she scored on sacrifice fly by shortstop Erin Ledesma. Concordia made the game 4-2 with a sacrifice fly from Kaylie Denaro that plated Myranda Billman in the fifth.

The visitors tied the game in the top of the seventh after Cristina Ayala started with a walk, was bunted over by Emily Schmuck and moved to third on a base hit by Denaro, who reached second on an error. Kaylie Pavicek delivered a single up the middle, scoring Ayala and Denaro to knot the game at 4-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, first baseman Olivia Reed led off with a base hit and was ran for by Cavazos. After a bunt single from Ledesma, Selldin drove the ball up the middle, scoring Cavazos for the walk-off win.

UT Dallas Notes
- Hoelscher (8-4) recorded double-digit strikeouts for the fourth time this season and moved into five place on the Comets' career K list with 174.
- Todd extended her hitting streak to 12 games with the double in game one and a single in game two.
- Pollack's home run was her second of the season.
- Jordan Rasmussen stole three bases on the night and had a hit in the second contest.
- Second baseman Jordan Evans was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the nightcap.
- Caddell stole a base, scored and knocked in two runs on Friday.
- Kassidie Rodriguez earned her first career win, shutting down the Tornados for the final two outs in the top of the seventh of game two. 

Concordia Texas Notes
- Ayala had four hits on the day and stole a base.
- Schmuck went 2-for-3 in game two, as did Matthews.
- Billman had a hit in both games, scored and stole a base.
- Denaro also had a hit in both contests. 
- The Tornados allowed seven walks in game two.
