RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team opened its three-game American Southwest Conference series against McMurry with a pair of wins in a double-header at UTD Baseball Field Saturday.
The Comets (6-4, 3-2 ASC) won the first game 6-2 in seven innings, before walking off in the bottom of the ninth in game two against the War Hawks (3-9, 2-3 ASC) 5-4.
In the opener, UTD took control early with four runs in the first. Right fielder 
Luke Finn struck with a bases-clearing double down the left field line and catcher 
Coleman Camp singled him in. The home team sent 10 batters to the plate and had three hits and drew four walks in the frame.
McMurry third baseman Josh Dyer hit a solo home run to left in the top of the second to make the game 4-1, but UTD would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the inning. A double and an error in the the sixth inning led to the War Hawks scoring the final run of the game.
In game two, right fielder Josh Hendricks was hit by a pitch and scored on a Dyer triple in the top of the first to give the War Hawks the early lead. The Comets tied it up in the bottom of the first when left fielder 
Brayshon Savage led off with a base hit and later scored on a 
Robert Hines ground ball.
McMurry scored two more runs in the top of the second and led 3-1 until the fifth. 
Jaeger Self started the inning with a walk, followed by singles from Savage and 
Andrew Skivington to load the bases. Hines plated Self and Savage with a drive up the middle to tie the game.
Left fielder Casey Turner led off the top of the seventh with a solo homer over the fence in left field to regain the advantage for the War Hawks.
Dylan Bivins singled to center to start the bottom of the ninth for UTD. Hine followed with a walk and 
Daniel Zamora knocked in Bivins with hit to left. After a pitching change, Finn bunted past the pitcher for a base hit to load up the bases. Catcher 
Austin Nairn ended the game with a base hit to left, scoring Hines for the 5-4 victory.
UT Dallas Notes
- 
Ryan Vera (2-1) earned the win in game one, striking out six while allowing seven hits and one unearned run.
- 
Kenny Garza threw a perfect seventh inning with one strikeout to close out the opener.
- Finn was 3-for-4 with four RBI, a run scored and a double in game. He added another hit in the nightcap.
- Camp went 2-for-4 with a RBI in game one.
- Savage picked up a pair of singles and scored twice in the second game.
- Hines drove in three runs in game two.
- Skivington extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in both contests.
- Along with the game winning hit, Nairn also threw out both base runners trying to steal.
- 
Ben Price (1-0) earned the victory in game two, throwing two innings and giving up just one walk with three strikeouts.
- 
Dylan Hugley struck out six and allowed seven hits and three runs in the no decision.
McMurry Notes
- The War Hawks gave up seven hits, seven walks and hit two batters in the opener.
- Second baseman Riley Hood had three hits, a double and run scored on the day.
- Dyer had a home run, triple and stole a base.
- Turner added three hits and two runs scored with the home run.
- McMurry allowed 10 hits, seven walks and hit two batters in the second game.
