BROWNWOOD, Texas - The UT Dallas men's tennis team picked up its first victory in American Southwest Conference East Division play, defeating Howard Payne 7-2 at the Nabers Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (4-3, 1-0 ASC East) opened by taking two of the three doubles matches. At number one,
Nick Boquet and
Jed De Luna won with a tiebreaker set, 8-7 (7-3), over Christian Fernandez and Nicolas Gates.
Ritvik Ganesan and
Noah Sam earned an 8-5 win over Micah Hunter and Landon Ferree at number two.
UTD won the first five singles flights against the Yellow Jackets (1-4, 0-1 ASC East). Ganesan won at number one against Hunter 6-1, 6-1 and De Luna was a 6-4, 6-1 victor against Fernandez at number two.
Boquet took a 6-3, 6-0 decision at number three against Sebastian Soria.
Noah Sam won in a third set tiebreaker against Hunter Green at the fourth spot, 3-6, 6-2, 10-1 and
Zach Malcomb won at number five against Feree 6-4, 6-3.
The Comets will be back in action on Sunday against St. Mary's (Texas) at noon in Richardson.
