LONGVIEW, Texas - The UT Dallas men's tennis team took one step closer to winning the American Southwest Conference East Division by defeating LeTourneau 7-2 at Davis Tennis Courts Monday afternoon.
With the win, the Comets (6-6, 3-0 ASC East) remain perfect in league play and will battle second-place East Texas Baptist on Friday in Richardson with the divisional title and the right to host the ASC Championship Tournament on the line.
UTD opened by taking two of the three doubles' matchups from the YellowJackets (4-8, 1-2 ASC East).
Eddy Shteyn and
Jed De Luna picked up an 8-1 victory over Alex Barrero and John Lewis at number three and
Snehin Yerragudi and
Nick Boquet were an 8-4 winner at number two against Miles Grubbs and Andres Urrutia.
The Comets went on to win all but one of the singles matches. Yerragudi was a 6-3, 7-5 victor over Julian Lee at number one and
Nathan Qi took down Zach Farris 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 at number two.
Ritvik Ganesan won at number four 6-1, 6-1 against Berrero and
Aryan Sharma won the fifth flight against Grubbs 6-4, 6-4. De Luna earned a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Lewis in the sixth spot.
UTD and ETBU will face off on Friday at 3 p.m. at the UTD Tennis Courts.
