Comets Fall to Lady Crusaders 5-4

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team lost to Dallas Christian 5-4 at the UTD Softball Field Wednesday evening.

The Lady Crusaders (5-33-1) took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the third. The Comets (18-8) cut the deficit to 3-2 in the third, starting with a solo home run over the left field fence by freshman shortstop Avery Taylor and Riley Westmoreland walking and later scoring on an error.

DCC first baseman Kaylee Brent hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to go up 5-2. In the bottom of the frame, Sarah Lewis led off with a double and was pinch ran for by Kailey Gonzales, who reached third on a passed ball. Olivia Reed doubled in Gonzales to make it 5-3. UTD's final run came on an error later in the inning.

The Lady Crusaders outhit the Comets 10-9.

UT Dallas Notes
- Taylor recorded her first two hits, blasting a home run and a double.
- Catcher Megan Todd was 2-for-4.
- Megan Cavazos had a single and stole a base. 
- Evelyn Santos also stole a bag.
- Lewis, Reed, Taylor and Addison Caddell each posted a double.
- Kassidie Rodriguez (1-1) suffered the loss in her first career start.
- McKenzie Cutbirth struck out four in three innings.
- Marisa Mejia fanned one batter and allowed one hit in 1.1 innings.

Dallas Christian Notes
- Autumn Minyard (2-9) was the winner for DCC and Hannah Mattingley picked up the save.
- Brent was 2-for-3 with two runs, three RBI, a stolen base and a home run.
- Mattee Fry recorded a sacrifice fly.
- Second baseman Lacey Bainbridge recorded a double.

The Comets will host #19 Mary Hardin-Baylor in a three-game American Southwest Conference series beginning at 4 p.m. Friday.
