RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team lost both games of an American Southwest Conference double-header Friday evening to #19 Mary Hardin-Baylor at UTD Softball Field. The visiting Cru (20-9, 13-3 ASC) took the first game 2-1, then defeated the Comets (18-10, 11-6 ASC) 7-4 in the nightcap.
The opener was a pitching duel between UMHB's Kami Flores (11-3) and UTD's
Emilie Hoelscher (10-5). Flores took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, as she allowed one hit, an unearned run and four walks go to with six strikeouts. Hoelscher fanned eight batters and gave up six hits, two runs and a walk.
Both of the Cru's runs came in the top of the third on an Izzy Gutierrez home run to center field.In the bottom of the inning, second baseman
Jordan Evans lef off with a walk and after a ground ball and an error, scored on a fielder's choice from
Claire Pollack.
UMHB's first four runners reached in the first of game one, as they scored on a two-run double by first baseman Julia Crofut and a two-run homer by Bryton Wright. They scored a run each in the next three innings to go up 7-0 through four.Â
In the bottom of the fifth,
Jordan Rasmussen led off by getting hit by a pitch and reached third after an error on
Riley Westmoreland sacrifice bunt. Pollack followed with a sac fly, driving in Rasmussen. First baseman
Cole Johnson drove in Westmoreland with a base hit through the right side to make the game 7-2.Â
The Comets tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh with two outs.
Addison Caddell walked, followed by a Johnson single. Catcher
Megan Todd knocked in Caddell with a base hit. After
Sarah Lewis drew a walk, Johnson scored on a wild pitch before UMHB reliever Danielle Gillean got out of the jam with a pop to end the game and earn her first save of the season.
UT Dallas Notes
- Pollack recorded an RBI in each game.
- Johnson was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored in game two.
- Todd went 2-for-4 and drove in the 100th run in her career.
- Caddell had the Comets' only hit in game one and had a double in game two.
- Evans walked twice in game one and
Avery Taylor did the same in the nightcap.

- Reliever
Kassidie Rodriguez threw three scoreless innings, striking out three and allowing just one hit in her longest career outing.
Mary Hardin-Baylor Notes
- Gutierrez was 5-for-6 with four RBI, three runs scored, a double and two home runs on the day.
- Crofut had three hits on Friday, including the two-run double in game two.
- Center fielder Lexi Harris was 2-for-4 in game two, as was left fielder Bailey Eggleston.
- Grayson Long (9-4) earned the win in the second game, striking out six while allowing just one walk and three hits over four innings in the start.
