BELTON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team took the first contest of a three-game American Southwest Conference from Mary Hardin-Baylor 8-1 at Red Murff Field Friday night.
Despite both teams each having nine hits, the Comets (19-11, 12-7 ASC) took advantage of four errors by the Cru (10-16, 6-13 ASC), while drawing nine walks, compared to just one issued by the UTD staff.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Comet right fielder
Luke Finn reached on an error nad later scored on a base hit by
Brayshon Savage. Two more errors in the sixth led to the visitors leading 4-0 in the sixth.
Third baseman
Daniel Zamora was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a double by Finn and scored on an
Austin Nairn sacrifice fly to make the game 5-0 in the seventh. Shortstop Rhett Grosz led the bottom of the seventh off with a solo home run for the Cru's only run.

Keagan Vance led the eighth off with a single and scored on a double from second baseman
Andrew Skivington.
Grayson Coltharp drove in Skivington with a single to give the Comets a 7-1 advantage. The final run came in the ninth after another UMHB error.

Ryan Vera (5-2) tied his career-high with eight strikeouts, giving up six hits and one run over seven innings to pick up the win.

Kasey Klyng allowed three hits and a walk with two Ks in the final two innings.

- Bryce Farlander (1-2) took the loss, giving up 1 unearned run with four hits, four walks and two strikeouts over four innings.
- Grosz was 2-for-3 with the solo home run.
- Second baseman Blake Harmon recorded a double.
- Kaden deBerardinis was 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
- Case Hagan was also 2-for-4 with a pair of steals.
