SHERMAN, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team won both games of a double-header against Austin at Old Settlers Park Wednesday night. The Comets (20-11) won the first game 4-1 before topping the 'Roos (7-25) 7-5 in eight innings.
In the opener, UTD outhit AC 8-4.
Emilie Hoelscher (11-6) struck out seven batters and walked one with two hits allowed over four innings to pick up the win.
McKenzie Cutbirth recorded a three-inning save, allowing two hits, one run, one walk and two Ks.
UTD scored all four runs in the top of the third. Second baseman
MiKayla Hoffman led off with a walk, followed by a
Riley Westmoreland infield single and
Claire Pollack loading the bases with another hit. Third baseman
Addison Caddell followed with a single-up the middle, plating Hoffman and Westmoreland.
Megan Cavazos doubled in Pollack and Caddell right after to give the Comets a 4-0 lead.Â
The 'Roos only run came in the sixth when center fielder Carrie Johnson doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hailie Swiatkowski.Â
UTD scored in the first and the second of game two to go up 2-0 early. Left fielder
Alexia Mullen singled, stole second and third and scored on an
Olivia Reed base hit in the first. In the second, third baseman
Holly Selldin singled and scored on an error. A RBI-single from Brooklynn Cook and a run-scoring double by Chyrsi Hemby tied the game up at 2-2 in the third for Austin.
Hemby recorded another RBI-double in the fifth to give the 'Roos a 3-2 advantage.
Megan Zatopek singled and scored on an
Evelyn Santos to tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth.
The Comets had four hits one just one hit and two errors in the top of the eighth to take a 7-3 lead. Cavazos had a two-run pinch hit single in the frame.Kaitlyn Barrett hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth for the final 7-5 tally.
UTD outhit AC 11-10 in game two.
