Baseball Senior Day Spoiled by ETBU

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball lost both games of Saturday's American Southwest Conference double-header to #23 East Texas Baptist at UTD Baseball Field.

The first-place Tigers (27-9, 21-3) won the first game 7-1 in seven innings then took game two from the Comets (22-14, 14-10) 6-3.

Before the games, UTD honored 10 seniors and graduate students - Lucas Abbott, Jake Good, Andrew Skivington, Ben Soule, Kade Turnage, Keagan Vance, Ryan Vera, Joshua Wood, Clayton Young and Daniel Zamora.

In game one, ETBU outhit UTD 11-4 as Sayers Collins (9-2) struck out nine, allowing just one walk one run in the seven-inning complete game win. Dylan Hugley (3-3) gave up nine hits, five earned runs, two walks and struck out two in the losing effort.

The Tigers got on the board int he second with a Brett Wagner two-run homer to left center. An error followed by a two-run single from catcher Austin Barry put the visitors up 5-0 in the third. 

The Comets' lone run came on a Vance solo homer over the left field fence in the bottom of the third. Jase Jones and Ben Lea had back-to-back RBI hits in the fifth for the final 7-1 tally.

In the second game, ETBU scored a run in the first and second innings, then tacked on two more in the third to go up 4-0. UTD center fielder Jaeger Self hit a home run to right center in the bottom of the third to put the Comets on the board. After another score from ETBU in the fourth, Zamora led the bottom of the inning off with a solo blast to make the game 5-2. Skivington led the fifth off with a single and later scored on a ground ball. The Tigers' final run cam in the top of the sixth with a Jordan Hara RBI-single.

With the win, ETBU captured the regular season title and the right to host the ASC Championship Tournament in May. UTD needs one win in next week's series to secure at least the third seed.

UT Dallas Notes
- Vance's home run was his first of the year and fifth of his career.
- Skivington was 2-for-5 with a run scored in game two.
- Self's homer was his first as a Comet.
- Zamora recorded his 12th career blast.
- Robert Hines went 2-for-5 with a RBI in the second game.
- Kenny Garza tied his career-high with six strikeouts, as the threw five innings of relief in the nightcap.

East Texas Baptist Notes
- Jacob Sherman (1-0) earned the game two win with a perfect sixth inning.
- Jagger Neely threw the final three innings of game two to earn the save.
- Wagner drove in four runs on the day with the home run and a double.
- Ben Lea had a double in game one and two hits in game two.

Up Next
UT Dallas will host Southwestern (Texas) at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the final non-conference game of the regular season.
