BROWNWOOD, Texas - The UT Dallas softball completed a three-game American Southwest Conference series sweep of Howard Payne, winning 10-0 in five innings at Lady Jacket Field Friday afternoon.
With the victory, the Comets (18-7, 11-4 ASC) have won four consecutive series, with a trio of sweeps. They also move into third place in the ASC standings, just a half game behind co-leaders Mary Hardin-Baylor and Hardin-Simmons.
McKenzie Cutbirth (4-2) shutdown the Lady Jackets (5-19, 1-15 ASC), striking out three batters while allowing just three hits over five innings.
In the top of the first, left fielder
Megan Cavazos singled to left and advanced to third on a
Megan Todd double. After an error loaded the bases, Cavazos scored the first run of the game on an infield single by first baseman
Cole Johnson.
Cavazos drove in second baseman
MiKayla Hoffman, who led off by reaching on an error, with a base hit up the middle. Hoffman made the game 4-0 in the third with a two-run double.Â
UTD scored five runs on six hits in the fourth to go up 9-0. Sara Lewis produced the biggest hit of the inning with a two-run single. A pair of errors led to the final run of the game in the fifth.
The Comets outhit the Lady Jackets 12-3.
UT Dallas Notes
- Cutbirth recorded her first career shutout.
- Cavazos went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs and a RBI-double.
- Todd was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. She moved into third on the Comet career RBI list with 99 and fifth with her 26th double.
- Hoffman was 2-for-3 with three batted in, a double and a run scored.

- Bree Cason (2-8) took the loss for HPU.
- Alexia Perrkio, Makayla Wesley and McKeanne Saenz each recorded a hit.
