UTD Blanks HPU for Fourth Straight Win

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's soccer team won its American Southwest Conference opener, shutting out Howard Payne 1-0 at UTD Soccer Field Thursday night.

The Comets (4-3-2, 1-0 ASC) won its fourth straight game with three consecutive shutouts as they outshot the Yellow Jackets (1-7, 0-1 ASC) 15-9 overall and 6-3 on goal.

The only goal of the game came in the 41st minute on a corner kick from Leo Castro, which found Kaleem Shabout's head and over to Aiden Currie, who scored on a header of his own.

HPU had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks, while UTD committed more fouls, 11-5.

UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets improve to 16-1 with 12 shutouts all-time against the Yellow Jackets.
- Currie scored for the second consecutive game.
- Castro's assist was the second of the season and the seventh of his career.
- Shabout, playing center back, recorded his first assist as Comet.
- Junior keeper Michael Hesse recorded three saves for his fourth shutout of the year.
- Riley O'Donnell took five shots, two on goal.
- Josh Zemanski, Hamza Syed and Kane Kidwell each took a shot on goal as well.
- Zemanski, Shabout, Currie, Kayson Marriott and Cayden Casburn played all 90 minutes. 

Howard Payne Notes
- Taylor Hefner took three shots, two on goal.
- Ian Bryant recorded a shot on goal.
- Brandon Padilla had four saves in goal.
- Ashton Riedel, Oscar De Santiago, Deaven Connelly and Hefner all played 90 minutes.
