ORANGE, Calif. - The UT Dallas women's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2024-25 season, defeating Chapman 58-55 at the Hutton Sports Center Friday evening.
The Comets (1-2) jumped out to a 29-11 lead in the middle of the second quarter before taking a 34-20 advantage into halftime. UTD shot 48.2 percent in the first half, going 14-of-29.
The Panthers (1-2) outscored the Comets 19-6 in the third, to cut the deficit to one headed into the final period. Chapman were up 50-46 with 4:08 left, but UTD outscored the home team 12-5 the rest of the way.
A pair of free throws from
Cierra Trigg gave UTD a 58-52 lead with 21 seconds left and CU answered with a three-pointer by Maile Nakaji nine seconds later. The Comets missed a pair of free throws on the next possession, giving the Panthers the ball with nine seconds left. Makaji attempted to tie the game with a pair of three-point attempts, but the final one was blocked by
Alex Bowman as time expired, allowing UTD to win by three.
For the game, the Comets shot 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the floor, 4-of-21 from three-point range and 14-of-25 at the free throw line. They also recorded 41 rebounds, 12 assists, 20 turnovers, two blocks and seven steals.
The Panthers were held to 29 percent (18-of-62) shooting, 4-of-18 from outside and 15-of-16 at the line with 38 rebounds, 10 assists, 18 turnovers, four blocks and nine steals.

- Graduate student
Anna Yellen was the leading scorer for the Comets for the second time with 15 points. She also had career-highs of seven rebounds and three steals.
- Trigg scored a season-high 11 points with four rebounds. She was 5-for-5 at the free throw line.
- Bowman finished with 11 points, four boards, three assists and a pair of blocked shots.
- Senior guard
Trystan Clark was 3-for-3 shooting, scoring seven points.
- Junior guard
Amanda Crowninshield hit a pair of threes for six points.
Chapman Notes
- Shanna Brown paced the Panthers with 18 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.
- Layla Woods scored 15 points with five boards.
- Kira Watanabe added eight points off the bench.
- Aidan Sherfey pulled down seven rebounds.
