ABILENE, Texas - The UT Dallas men's basketball team took down LeTourneau 93-85 in the American Southwest Conference Championship Semifinals at the Mabee Complex Friday evening.
With the win, the Comets (17-9) advance to the Finals against Mary Hardin-Baylor at 6 p.m. Saturday. UTD is 4-1 all-time in the championship game, having won the title in 2005, 2009, 2014 and 2019.
The Comets led the YellowJackets (17-10) by as many as 17 points before ending the first half with a 49-37 advantage. The #2 seed in the tournament shot 53.1 percent (17-for-32) in the opening period and drained six three-pointers.
Trailing 79-65 with 7:55 remaining, LETU went on a 20-8 run to cut the deficit to 87-85 with 2:33 left. It remained a two-point game until the final 18 seconds of the game, when UTD's
Nick Donnelly hit a pair of free throws, followed by two more each from
Donovan Souter and
Luke Kiser. The YellowJackets missed all three shot attempts and turned the ball over in the final two and a half minutes of the game. The Comets were 15-for-17 at the free throw line in the second half.
For the game, UTD shot 49.2 percent (30-for-61) from the field, 9-for-29 from outside and 24-for-34 at the line. They also had 27 rebounds, 20 assists, 11 turnovers, two blocked shots and a season-best 14 steals.
LETU shot 61.1 percent (33-for-54) overall, 11-for-23 from three-point range and 8-for-11 at the free throw line with 32 boards, 20 assists, 20 turnovers, one block and five steals.
UT Dallas Notes
- Sophomore center
Austin Page netted 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting with five rebounds and a career-high six assists.
- Donnelly finished with 17 points, going 6-for-6 at free throw line, with three steals.
- Souter had 16 points, draining four three-pointers, with five rebounds and two steals.
- Kiser recorded 12 points, four boards, seven assists and a pair of steals.
- Junior forward
Rob Wade scored nine points and recorded two steals.
- Freshman forward Joradn Balderaz added seven points, four rebounds and two steals.
LeTourneau Notes
- Caedmon Liebengood led the YellowJackets with 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting to go with six rebounds and three assists.
- Walker Blaine went 6-for-9 from outside, scoring 20 points, and grabbed six boards.
- Christian Adams recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
- Teigan Edwards added nine points and four assists.

The Comets will face either #3 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor in the ASC Finals Saturday at 6 p.m. The teams split in the regular season.
