RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team battled #15 Texas Lutheran in a double-header at UTD Softball Field Saturday afternoon, with the visiting Bulldogs (6-0) coming out on top 4-2 and 9-3.
In game one, the Comets (1-3) struck first when freshman first baseman
Cadence Hernandez and junior center fielder
Cole Johnson hit back-to-back solo homers on consecutive pitches.Â
TLU tied it in the fourth with its own back-to-back solo shots from Serena Gonzalez and Abby Touchet. They took the lead with another solo home run by right fielder Madison Johnson in the top of the sixth. The Bulldogs tacked on a final run in the seventh when Caelee Clark tripled and scored on a Kylee Jack base hit.
TLU outhit UTD 10-5 in game one.
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs took advantage of a pair of Comet errors in the first with Jack driving a two-run homer over the center field fence. Senior
Alexia Mullen led off the bottom of the inning with single down the left field line and third baseman
Addison Caddell followed with a home run to center to make the game 3-2.
Jack hit a run-scoring double in the third to give TLU a 4-2 advantage. UTD second baseman
MiKayla Hoffman singled up the middle to plate
Riley Westmoreland in the bottom of the inning.
Another error led to a fifth run in the fourth for the Bulldogs. The visitors from Seguin broke through with four runs on four hits, an error and three walks in the sixth. TLU led in hits 9-8 in game two.
UT Dallas Notes
- Caddell extended her hitting streak to five games, dating back to last season. She was 3-for-6 on the day with the two-run homer.
- Hernandez hit her first collegiate dinger and had a hit in each game.
- Johnson connected on her third career home run.

- Mullen was 2-for-4 with a run scored in game two.

Blair Collier stole a base in game one and had a hit in the nightcap.

- Ashlyn Strother (4-0) threw a complete game one, striking out eight and allowing one walk.
- Jack was 3-for-3 with six RBI, two runs scored, a double and home run in game two.
- Johnson was 3-for-3 with the solo homer and stolen base in game one.
- The Bulldogs stole six bases in game two.
- Sydney Oullette (1-0) earned the win in relief in the nightcap. She struck out one and gave up four hits and hit a batter in 4.2 scoreless frames.
