Comets' Pitching Hinders Pirates in 3-1 Victory

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas pitching staff combined to give up just four hits, a walk and an unearned run while striking out 11 batters in a 3-1 victory over Southwestern (Texas) at UTD Baseball Field Tuesday afternoon.

Right fielder Jake Harris led off the game with a base hit for the Pirates (3-5) and reached third on a throwing error. Third baseman Jacob Tanner followed with a sacrifice fly to right field for SU's only run of the game in the first.

The Comets (7-1) were held scoreless until the fourth inning when first baseman Zach Landry and catcher Nico Fernandez started the frame with back-to-back walks. Brayshon Savaged bunted the pair over and Efren Munoz grounded out, but plated Landry from third to tie the game. Sophomore shortstop Garrett Neeley hit a single to left field, allowing Fernandez to score and give UTD a 2-1 lead.

The final run of the game came in the sixth inning when Munoz led off with a double down the left field line and went to third on a sac bunt by Neeley. Luke Finn laid down a bunt which allowed Munoz to score.
