ABILENE, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team won the first game of a three-game American Southwest Conference series 7-1 against McMurry at Walt Driggers Field Friday night.
The Comets (8-1, 4-0 ASC) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third after sophomore shortstop
Garrett Neeley led off with a single to right, was bunted over by
Jaeger Self and scored on a double from
Luke Finn. The right fielder then stole third and scored on an
Albert Garza sacrifice fly.
The War Hawks (4-7, 1-3 ASC) lone run came in the bottom of the third after Ty Nelson led off with a single to left nd later scored on a Tatum Black sac fly.Â
UTD picked up a run in the fifth before scoring three on two hits, an error and a walk in the seventh to go up 6-1. Garza recorded a two-run single in the frame. Junior center fielder
Jaeger Self hit a solo home run to lead off the ninth for the final 7-1 score.
Dylan Collins (2-0) earned his second consecutive win, allowing seven hits, one run and three walks with seven strikeouts over eight innings. Braydon Durst (1-1) took the loss for McMurry, allowing five hits, three earned runs and a walk with three strikeouts.
UT Dallas Notes
- Garza moved his hitting streak to eight games to start the season, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
- Finn recorded the double for two RBI and stole two bases. He leads the team with six steals on the year.
- Neeley went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- Self his second homer of the season, recorded two RBI and scored twice.

Caleb Vuono threw a scoreless ninth and has five scoreless outings in six appearances this season.
McMurry Notes
- Third baseman RIley Hood went 2-for-4 as did first baseman Nolan Scherencel.Â
- Nelso, Casey Turner, Koy Carpenter and Michael Smosna had the other hits for the War Hawks.
