RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas men's tennis team opened the 2024 duel season with a 5-4 victory over Texas Wesleyan at the UTD Tennis Courts Friday afternoon.
The Comets (1-0) opened with a pair of doubles points. Senior
Nick Boquet and sophomore
Benjamin Dubois won at number two over Marco Salamanca and Jose Pablo Merino 8-7 (7-4). Graduate student
Jed De Luna and
Nathan Qi won at number three 8-2 against Austin Davis and Elliott Hoffman. The Rams (3-1) picked up a point at number one doubles.
The top three singles came down to a third-set tiebreaker. UTD's
Andres Gonzalez, who is ranked #31 in the nation, took the first flight 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 against Pablo Olemdo. Sophomore
Snehin Yerragudi defeated Gabriel Torres at number three 6-1, 2-6, 11-9. TWU's Salamanca won against Qi at number two 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.
Dubois defeated Hoffman 6-3, 6-1 at number six to remain perfect on the day.
The Comets will be back in action on Saturday, February 17 when they host #17 Southwestern (Texas).
