SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team ended its four-game weekend in San Antonio with a 6-1 loss to #17 Trinity (Texas) Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers (9-3) outhit the Comets (11-5) 7-4 with the pitching staff combining for 14 strikeouts, while the visitors fanned eight.
Left fielder Max Milligan led off the bottom of the first and scored on a base hit by catcher Nicholas Lazzara to put TU on the board early. Second baseman Colt Harris led the fourth off with a solo home run and designated hitter Alex Monson hit a three-run blast in the sixth as part of a four-run inning, putting the game at 6-0.
UTD's lone run came in the top of the seventh with third baseman
Dylan Bivins walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double to left fielder by
Nico Fernandez.
Jackson Teer (3-0) struck out eight and allowed two hits in 5.1 scoreless innings. Relievers Sheppard Tyler and Jack Briese each recorded three strikeouts. Junior
Apollo Cassimatis (1-1) took the loss for the Comets.
UT Dallas Notes
- Fernandez went 2-for-4 with the RBI-double. He now has seven multiple-hit games this season.
- Second baseman
Albert Garza recorded a double and drew two walks. he leads the team with eight doubles and 14 walks.
- Center fielder
Lucas Rexin had the Comets' other hit.
- Cassimatis tied his career high with five strikeouts over 3.2 innings.
Trinity Notes
- First baseman Cristian Holloway was 3-for-4 with a run scored, RBI and a walk.
- Monson drove in three with his home run.
- Milligan scored, recorded a hit, a walk and a sac bunt.
- Shortstop Jack Baker walked twice and stole two bases.
