LUCAS, Texas -
Shane Shewmake recorded his 600th career victory for the UT Dallas baseball program, defeating Ozarks 7-1 at Lovejoy High School Sunday afternoon.
Shewmake, in his 23rd season, started the Comet program in 2002 and has never had a losing campaign. He has won three American Southwest Conference titles, making four trips to the NCAA Division III Championship. Shewmake now has a 600-356 career record.Â
UTD (12-6, 5-3 ASC) also completed Saturday's contest against Ozarks (9-8, 4-4 ASC) prior to Sunday's game after being halted on Saturday in the sixth inning. The Eagles took the opening game of the series, 6-5.
Game 1
The first game was started Saturday morning on the campus of Eastfield College in Mesquite and was stopped due to rain.Â
Senior right fielder
Luke Finn led the bottom of the first off with a double to left and scored on a base hit by second baseman
Albert Garza to give the Comets an early lead.
Ozarks took the lead in the third with three runs on four hits and two errors. Center fielder Cole Clark had the big hit of the inning, driving a two-run single up the middle.
Grayson Coltharp led the fourth off with a double and later scored on a
Lucas Rexin sacrifice fly to make the game 3-2.
UTD regained the lead with
Dylan Bivins driving in Finn on a sac fly in the, followed by Garza stealing two bags and scoring on an errant throw. First baseman
Zach Landry started the eighth by being hit by a pitch and gave the Comets a 5-3 advantage when he scored on a Coltharp single.
Right fielder Conner Reed won the game for the Eagles with a three-run homer to right center in the top of the ninth. Jose Scianca closed the game out with a 1-2-3 inning to earn the save.
Both teams had 10 hits in the opener.
Game 2
In the seven-inning game of the series, the Comets went on the attack early, plating three runs in the first, taking advantage of a hit, two passed balls and a balk. They went up 4-0 in the second when Rexin recorded a one-out single and advanced to third on a hit-and-run with Finn at the plate. Garza followed with a single to center, scoring Rexin. Landry hit an infield single and was knocked in by
Garrett Neeley to make it 5-0 in the third.
Coltharp singled and scored in the fifth for a 6-0 advantage. Ozarks' only run came in the top of the sixth when Jake Dempsey led off with a base hit and scored on a triple to right field from Nicholas Bennett. UTD added another run on an error in the top of the sixth.

Ryan Vera (3-2) pitched another masterpiece in game two, striking out nine and allowing five hits and one run over seven frames. He moved into a tie on UTD's career wins list with 21 and third in strikeouts with 205.Â

Dylan Collins started game one with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and one earned run in the non-decision.
- Finn went 4-for-9 with three runs scored, a double, a RBI, a walk and a stolen base.
- Garza was 4-for-6 with two runs, two RBI, a pair of walks, a double, sac bunt and three steals.
- Sophomore catcher
Nico Fernandez drew five walks.
- Johnson had a pair of hits in game one and stole two bases in game two.Â
- Coltharp came up with three hits, two walks, two runs scored and RBI.
