TUCSON, Ariz. - The UT Dallas softball team moved to 3-0 in the Tucson Invitational Games on Thursday, blanking Franklin & Marshall 4-0 and Dickinson 8-0 in five innings at Lincoln Park.
Game 1 vs. Franklin & Marshall
The Comets (9-6) outhit the Diplomats (4-7) 10-4 in the opener, while junior
McKenzie Cutbirth struck out nine batters with four walks in the complete game shutout.
UTD got on the board in the top of the first with a two-run double from freshman first baseman
Cadence Hernandez. They capped the game with two more runs in the seventh when sophomore right fielder
Claire Pollack tripled in
Evelyn Santos and scored on an error.
Game 2 vs. Dickinson
Marisa Mejia and
Allison Koch combined for the 21st one-hitter in school history while giving up just one walk to the Devils (0-8).Â
The Comets scored a pair in the first which included a RBI-double from shortstop
MiKayla Hoffman. She led off the fourth with another double and scored on a base hit by
Gracelyn Taylor in the fourth. UTD added two more runs in the inning, with RBI-singles from
Alexia Mullen and
Addison Caddell.
They ended the game via run rule in the fifth with three more runs.
Olivia Reed recorded a pinch-hit run-scoring double, Mullen drove in another run with a triple and scored the final tally of the game on a Caddell single to center.
UT Dallas Notes
- Cutbirth moved to 6-0 on the season and tied her career-high with nine strikeouts. She now has 49 Ks on the year.
- Mejia moved to 2-2 on the year with three scoreless innings, striking out one. Koch had two innings of shutout relief.
- Mullen went 5-for-6 on the day with two runs scored, two RBI, a triple and three stolen bases. She has recorded multiple hits 10 times this season.
- Pollack had two hits and two runs scored with an RBI in game one.
- Hernandez blasted a pair of doubles in game one, while Hoffman had two in the nightcap.
- Caddell was also 5-for-6 Thursday with a run, two walks, a double and two driven in.
Franklin & Marshall Notes
- Aliza Sheflin (2-1) took the loss, lasting just over an inning.Â
- Kayla Klimer struck out four and allowed seven hits and two runs over 5.2 innings of relief. She also had a hit at the plate.
- Natalia Garza walked twice.
- Sophia Noriega, Hillary Muse and Megan Wiarda each recorded a single.
Dickinson Notes
- Erin McMahon (0-1) threw 4.2 innings, allowing nine hits, seven earned runs, four walks and three strikeouts.
- First baseman Emma Glosson had the Devils' only hit.
- Zoe Kleeblatt drew the walk
