ALPINE, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team opened a three-game series at Sul Ross State with a double-header sweep in an offensive explosion at Kokernot Field Friday night. The Comets (14-7) won the seven-inning opener 18-6 and followed with a 21-15 victory.
Game 1
The Lobos (5-16) took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but the Comets got a solo home run from
Grayson Coltharp to lead off the third and another solo bomb by
Zach Landry in the fourth to go up 2-1.
SRSUÂ regained the lead with four runs on three hits in the fifth which included a two-run shot from Carsen Thor. UTD bounced right back with nine runs on five hits and four walks in the sixth. Landry blasted a grand slam to cap the inning. The visitors followed with another big inning in the seventh, tacking on seven runs on seven hits and a walk. Sophomore catcher
Nico Fernandez drove in three runs in the frame, leading off with a solo home run to left and adding a two-run single with two outs.
Primo Vasquez hit a RBI-double in the bottom of the seventh for the final 18-6 score.
Dylan Collins (3-0) picked up the win on the mound, while Derek Rojo took the loss. UTD outhit SRSU 17-12 and lead in walks, 7-1.
Game 2
The nightcap was a wild affair, with the Lobos outhitting the Comets 21-13, but the UTD benefited from drawing 13 walks, while Sul Ross only reached on four.Â
The Lobos led 6-4 after the first inning and went to take a 13-6 advantage into the sixth. The Comets tied the game with seven runs in the sixth and the game was once again knotted at 14-14 headed into the eighth.
UTD picked up three runs in the eighth, gave up one in the bottom half and ended the scoring with four in the ninth.
Derek Brieden (1-0) earned the win in relief, while Rojo (2-3) took his second loss of the day.
UT Dallas Notes
- The 13 walks issued to the Comets in game two was one off the school record.
- Collins truck out four, allowing four earned runs, a walk and eight hits over five innings to earn the game one win.

Kasey Klyng threw a scoreless sixth inning in the opener.
- Brienden had his longest outing of the year, striking out four and giving up two hits and an unearned run over 2.2 innings.
- Landry was 4-for-7 with two homers, four runs and seven RBI in game one. He added a double and set a school record with three sac flies in game two.

Brayshon Savage was 4-for-6 with four runs scored, seven batted in and two stolen bases on the day.
- Fernandez was 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored in game one.

Lucas Rexin went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI in game one.

Luke Finn drew four walks in game one and went 2-for-6 with four runs scored, two steals and a solo home run in game two.

Dylan Bivins hit a solo home run and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the nightcap.
- Jaeager Self was 1-for-3 with three runs scored and three walks in game two.
Sul Ross State Notes
- Rojo allowed eight runs in 1.2 innings in the two losses.
- Shortstop Estevan Ortiz went 4-for-8 with four runs scored and three RBI on the day.
- Thor finished with six hits, including a double and a home run, and crossed the plate five times.
- Christopher Ulloa hit a three-run homer in game two.
- Alvaro Hernandez was 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBI in game two.
