RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team finished off a three-game series sweep of Sul Ross State with a 1-0 blanking at UTD Softball Field Saturday afternoon.
Junior pitcher
McKenzie Cutbirth threw her third shutout of the season, stifling the Lobos (9-12) by allowing just two hits with three strikeouts.Â
The Comets (13-7) would score the only run needed in the bottom of the third. Senior shortstop
Erin Ledesma led off with a walk and was put out on a fielder's choice ground ball off the bat of
Alexia Mullen, who then stole second. A
Claire Pollack single to right center moved Mullen to third, who then scored on an
Addison Caddell sacrifice fly to center field.
Sul Ross' biggest threat came in the fourth when Toni Mishnick reached second after two errors and Ciera Avila hit an infield single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Cutbirth got out of the jam by inducing a pair of ground outs and a fly ball.
Hannah Clark (2-2) took the loss for the Lobos.
