Comets Outlast Tornados in Twin-Bill Sweep

RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team won both games of an American Southwest Conference double-header against Concordia Texas at UTD Baseball Field Thursday. The Comets (17-7, 7-4 ASC) took the seven-inning opener 4-2 and walked off the Tornados (13-12, 5-9 ASC) 5-4 in the 13th.

Game One
Concordia went up 2-0 in the top of the third after two hits, an error and a sacrifice fly. UTD tied it up in the bottom of the frame after shortstop Garrett Neeley led off with a single and later scored on an error. Albert Garza reached on fielder's choice bunt and was driven in by Lucas Rexin with a hit to left.

The only other runs of the game came in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back RBI-singles from Rexin and third baseman Dylan Bivins.

Dylan Collins (4-0) went the distance, giving up four hits, one earned run and a walk with three strikeouts. Otto Franz took the loss for CTX, allowing eight hits, three earned runs and two walks over four frames.

The Comets outhit the Tornados 8-4.

Game Two 
Concordia led 1-0 in the top of the third after center fielder Zach Siegrist tripled and scored on a Julian Swift grounder. Brayshon Savage led off the bottom of the inning by reaching on error and was bunted to second by Garrett Neeley. Center fielder Jaeger Self plated Savage with a single through the left side to tie the game.

Swift doubled in Aaron Gomez in the fifth and Colby Christian led off the sixth with a home run over the left field fence. Mason DuBois was hit by a pitch and scored on a Seigrist single in the top of the seventh to give CTX a 4-1 advantage.

Savage reached on another error in the eighth and scored on a Self sac fly to cut the Comets' deficit in half. Rexin walked and Bivins singled to start the ninth-inning rally. Payton Taylor flied out to center field and an errant throw allowed Rexin and pinch runner Will Dolan score on the play to tie it up.

Self led the bottom of the 13th with a single down the third base line and was bunted to second by Garza. Self stole third standing up and scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Concordia outhit UTD 9-7, but the home team took advantage of the Tornados' four errors.

Ben Price (2-2) was the winner on the mound, while Mason Brandenberger (0-2) received the loss.

UT Dallas Notes
- Collins picked up his first complete game win of the year.
- Game two starter Ryan Vera broke the UTD school record with his 38th career start. He also struck out six and moved into second place all-time with 211 Ks.
- Price threw three scoreless frames, allowing just two baserunners.
- Self was 5-for-7 with two runs, two RBI and two stolen bases on the day.
- Rexin went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in game one.
- Neeley had three hits with two runs scored.
- Savage scored twice in game two.

Concordia Texas Notes
- Ryan Bailey threw two scoreless innings in game one.
- Christian had three hits, two RBI, a home run and a stolen base in the two games.
- Seigrist also had three hits with a double and triple.
- Brandon Goynes was 2-for-5 with a walk in game two.
- Dakota Palmer started game two, striking out five while allowing two unearned runs and two hits over eight innings.
- Brandenberger threw 4.2 innings of relief and gave up five hits, one earned run and one walk with four strikeouts.
