SHREVEPORT, La. - The UT Dallas baseball team outlasted Centenary (La.) 5-3 in 11 innings at Shehee Stadium Tuesday night.
In the first of four match-ups in two weeks between the two squads, the Comets (9-3) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Center fielder
Lucas Rexin led off with a walk, was bunted to second by
Albert Garza and continued to third on a base hit by
Luke Finn. Senior third baseman
Dylan Bivins drove in Rexin with a sacrifice fly to right field.
UTD went up 3-0 with two outs in the top of the eighth when Garza hit an infield single and Finn walked with both players scoring on a Bivins double to right center.
The Gents (5-5) cut the deficit to one after a two-run single from catcher Jake Gonce in the bottom of the eighth. They forced extra innings in the ninth when left fielder Carson Livesay led off with a double, was bunted to third by Colton Pitts and scored on a passed ball.
After a scoreless 10th for both teams, the Comets put a pair of runners in scoring position in the 11th when first baseman
Zach Landry singled and
Nico Fernandez walked followed by a wild pitch.
Grayson Coltharp singled, plating Landry to go up 4-3. With two outs, Fernandez scored on another wild pitch for a two-run advantage.
With one out in the bottom of the 11th,
Ben Price gave up back-to-back singles, but got out of the jam by inducing a double play ball from Alex Miller.
Centenary outhit UTD 11-9 with the visitors drawing one more walk (7-6). Both teams struck out 10 times.
UT Dallas Notes
- Price (1-2) threw two innings, allowing two hits with a strikeout to earn his first win of the season.
- Bivins recorded three RBI and a double. He leads the Comets with six doubles and 16 batted in.
- Fernandez went 2-for-4 with a double for his fifth multiple-hit game of the year. He also threw out two of three base stealers from behind the plate.
- Landry was also 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.
- Starter
Apollo Cassimatis fanned four batters over three scoreless frames.

Centenary Notes
- Jobee Boone went 3-for-5 for the Gents.
- Gonce drove in two runs.
- Livesay and Pitts each had two hits, including a double. Livesay also stole a base.
- Miller went 2-for-6 with a run scored.
- Jacob Broussard (0-2) took the loss, allowing two hits, two runs and two walks with five strikeouts over two innings.
- Starter Cody Myers struck out four with three walks, one run and four hits allowed over seven frames.
