GEORGETOWN, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball had its nine-game win streak ended with a 7-5 loss at Southwestern (Texas) at Rockwall Field Wednesday night.
The Pirates (16-14) managed a pair of runs in the first RBI-doubles from catcher James Vaquero and center fielder Maxwell Mims. The Comets (21-8) tied it in the second with RBI-grounders from center fielder
Jaeger Self and right fielder
Luke Finn, taking advantage of a SU error.
A UTD error led to two runs for the home team in the fourth. Christian Mellilo led the fifth off with a solo home run to give the Pirates a 5-2 lead. They added another run in the sixth after an error.
In the top of the seventh, Comet first baseman
Zach Landry doubled and scored on a base hit from
Lucas Rexin and Self rocketed a two-run single to right to make the game 6-5.
SU's final run came in the in the seventh when Melillo drew a walk with the bases loaded, scoring Alexander Cannata who led off with a base on balls.
UTD outhit SU 10-7, but the Pirates outdrew the Comets in walks 10-4.
Garrett Guinn (2-0) earned the win on the mound, while
Apollo Cassimatis (1-2) took the loss.

- Cassimatis struck out four over 4.1 innings.

Kasey Klyng struck out two batters in a perfect eighth inning.

Garrett Neeley went 3-for-4 and stole two bases.
- Landry finished 2-for-4 with the double, a run scored and was hit by a pitch.

Payton Taylor had a double, walked, was hit by a pitch and scored twice.
- Self extended his hitting streak to 10 games and drove in three.
- Third baseman
Dylan Bivins also moved his hitting streak to 10.
- Rexin had a single, RBI, stole a base and scored twice.

- Vaquero was 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and run scored.
- Cannata scored twice and walked two times.
- Mellilo had the solo home run and drove in two.
- Mims was 2-for-5 with the RBI-double.
- Guinn allowed five hits, two runs, two walks and struck out two while hitting three batters in six innings.
- Ty Elder earned his first ave of the season, allowing three hits and a walk with three strikeouts over 2.1 scoreless frames.
