RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team came up with its third shutout of the season, run-ruling St. Thomas (Texas) 14-0 at the UTD Baseball Field Tuesday afternoon.
The Comets (24-9) outhit the Celts (12-21) 11-3 and drew eight walks while not allowing any.
Junior
Apollo Cassimatis (2-2) allowed just two hits while striking out five over six innings.
Jake Jennings struck out one and surrendered a hit in the seventh to combine for the shutout.
UTD opened the scoring with a four-run first inning. First baseman
Zach Landry hit a two-run single,
Brayshon Savage recorded a sacrifice fly and Landry stole home on the backend of a double steal to account for the runs.
The Comets doubled the lead in the fourth, taking advantage of three hits and an error. Savage and catcher
Payton Taylor hit back-to-back doubles to lead things off and
Efren Munoz plated Taylor with a base hit. Munoz later scored on an error and
Luke Finn crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Four hit, an error and four walks led to six more runs in the fifth.
Albert Garza had a two-run base hit and
Dylan Bivins knocked in two with a double down the right field line during the big inning.
UT Dallas Notes
- Cassimatis' five strikeouts tied his career-high.
- The Comets recorded four doubles - Bivins, Savage, Taylor and
Garrett Neeley.
- They also stole four bases - Finn, Garza, Landry and
Josh Johnson.
- Landry was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
- Johnson went 2-for-4.
- Finn walked twice with a hit and scored three times.
- Bivins drove in two and scored twice.
- Munoz scored twice and drove in a run.
St. Thomas Notes
- Kaden Bertrand (0-1) took the loss, allowing three hits, four runs and a walk while striking out three over three innings.
- Austin Schwarz, Augie Andersen and Lance Khan each recorded a bse hit.
- Israel Fields stole a base.
