MARSHALL, Texas - The UT Dallas baseball team dropped the final game of the American Southwest Conference series to #4/5 East Texas Baptist 6-3 at Woods Field Sunday afternoon.
With three games left in the regular season, the Comets (24-12, 13-8 ASC) have secured a spot in the six-team ASC Championship Tournament, which will be held in Marshall. They currently sit in second place and need two wins to secure that spot.
UTD right fielder
Luke Finn led the game off with a double, then stole third and scored on a blooper to center field by
Zach Landry. The Tigers (31-6, 20-1) answered in the bottom of the first when Jacob Evangelista doubled and was knocked in by Dylan Burnaman's single.
The Comets regained the lead in the second when
Lucas Rexin was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Jaeger Self.
ETBU took control with four runs on three hits, two hit batters, two walks and a wild pitch. Nick Massarini had a two-run single in the inning. A sac fly put the Tigers up 6-2 in the sixth.
The final run of the game came when Rexin doubled and scored after an
Efren Munoz two-bagger down the lift field line in the eighth.
ETBU outhit UTD 7-5 in the game.
UT Dallas Notes
- The Comets tied a school record with eight stolen bases.
- Rexin was 1-for-2 with a double, two steals and was hit twice.Â
- Finn had a double with two stolen bases - his fifth multiple-steal game of the season.
- Landry also doubled, drove in a run and stole a base.

East Texas Baptist Notes
- The Tigers will be the number one seed and host the ASC Championship Tournament.
- Reliever Peyton Miller (5-1) struck out four batters and allowed two walks and a hit over five innings to get the win.
- Robert Croft picked up his eighth save of the year.
- Massarini drove in two runs.
- Connor Massimini recorded two RBI, walked once and was hit once with a sac fly.
