RICHARDSON, Texas - The UT Dallas softball team lost the American Southwest Conference series finale to Howard Payne 6-5 at UTD Softball Field Saturday afternoon.
The visiting Lady Jackets (9-18, 2-13 ASC) scored four unearned runs in the top of the seventh, erasing a 5-2 deficit entering the inning.
The Comets (15-11, 6-6 ASC) opened the scoring with a two-run home run over the left field fence in the second.
HPU right fielder Maddison Cason led off the third with an infield single, stole second and later crossed the plate on a Makayla Fuentes base hit. UTD added two more runs in the fourth on three hits and an error, including a RBI-single by
Erin Ledesma.
Fuentes drove in Jayden Falcon with another hit in the top of the fifth to make the game 4-2. The Comets went up 5-2 after
Claire Pollack drove in pinch runner
Megan Cavazos with a single to right center.
After two outs and Fuentes reaching on an error. pinch hitter Mariah Gaytan drew a walk to put two runners on. Catcher Makayla Wesley followed with a three-run homer to left field to tied the game. Kaylie Camacho followed with a base hit and scored after an error on a McKeanne Saenz single.Â
Both teams each recorded 11 hits. Bree Cason (7-11) earned the win for HPU while
Marisa Mejia (3-5) took the loss.
